If you’re a heavy Google user like me, you’ll find yourself frequently testing the limits of Google’s free services. After a while, it becomes increasingly useful to know exactly what those limits are. For the sake of my sanity (and for the benefit of others), I’ve decided to a compile a list of where to find out these limitations.
Google Sites
How much storage do I have in Google Sites?
A standard Google Site caps out at 100Mb. If you have the free edition of Google Apps, your entire domain may have up to 10Gb’s worth of sites. (Note: Pay attention to the time of this writing. Google may have changed their limits by the time you read this; that’s why I’m including the links to the official Google pages as well.)
Google Docs
Getting to know Google Docs: Size limits
Docs max out at 500K, while presentations and spreadsheets max out at 10MB. You can store up to 5,000 docs and presentations and up to 1,000 spreadsheets. A spreadsheet can have up to 20,000 formulas, with up to 1,000 GoogleFinance formulas and 1,000 GoogleLookup formulas.
Google App Engine
I bet these quotas change quite frequently compared to Google’s other services. At the time of this writing, the free edition of Google App Engine allows for up to 6.5 CPU hours per day, 1GB of bandwidth per day, and up to 1.3 million requests a day. There are several specific caps, such as the maximum rate of requests an app can have per minute (7,400 request/minute), so to see the full details, see the link above.
Google Apps
The Standard (free) Edition of Google Apps gives you (almost) the same amount mail of storage as Gmail, and you get your own personal Sites, Calendar, and Docs. Premier Edition users get 25GB of mail storage, plus more stuff like Google Video, SSO features, and a set of Google APIs for managing your users.
YouTube
Getting Started: Video length and size
YouTube videos currently can be up to 10 minutes long and 2GB in size.
Google Picasa
Upgrading Storage: How it works
I don’t use Picasa (I’m a SmugMug fan myself), but for those who do: you get 1GB of free storage for photos and videos. The first tier of paid storage starts at 10GB for $20 a year.
Blogger
What are the limits on my Blogger account?
I don’t use Blogger either (can you guess what I use instead? :P), but for those who do: Blogger pages can be up to 1MB in size, and the storage limit is 1GB, but that 1GB shared with your Picasa Web account.
Well, I hope someone finds this useful. At least this post will save me time from looking up over and over again the caps for Google App Engine and Google Docs.
