Why I’m Not Writing About the Nintendo Wii
There are a few reasons why I’m not writing about the Wii:
- I don’t have one yet.
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl isn’t out yet.
- The supercute Wii Sims isn’t out yet.
- Everyone else is already talking about it.
- There’s nothing I can say about it that hasn’t already been said.
Instead, I’ll just give you random news tidbits:
Peter Jackson may still be able to direct The Hobbit. According to IGN’s article, the issue is due to a struggle between studios in regards to owning rights to the film. From the article:
The tussle between studios is almost certainly not over, but if Zaentz and MGM end up producing The Hobbit, Jackson is their pick for the job.
“It will definitely be shot by Peter Jackson,” said Zaentz. “The question is only when. He wants to shoot another movie first. Next year the rights to The Hobbit will fall back to my company. I suppose that Peter will wait because he knows that he will make the best deal with us. And he is fed up with the studios: to get his profit share on the rings trilogy he had to sue New Line. With us in contrast he knows that he will be paid fairly and artistically supported without reservation.” (translation from TheOneRing.net)
As stated on Slashdot this morning, YouTube is entering the mobile market. Verizon Wireless users subscribing to Verizon’s VCast service will have access to a limited number of YouTube videos, where the selection of videos is determined by YouTube’s editors. From the article:
“Everybody carries a phone with them, but they may not have a computer,” said Steve Chen, chief technology officer and a co-founder of YouTube. People can “take the phone out of their pocket while waiting for the bus” and watch a video, he added.
Verizon Wireless and YouTube said the service would be available early next month. The companies would not discuss the financial terms of their deal but said Verizon would have the exclusive rights to distribute YouTube videos on mobile phones “for a limited period of time.”
Okay, I couldn’t resist. As reported on today’s edition of Kotaku, Stephen Colbert makes fun of the Wii on the Colbert Show. Here’s the video:
Well, that’s all for today!
