This news is a little old, but it’s still quite interesting.
For April Fool’s Day, six girls from Ravenna, Ohio, made life-size versions of question blocks from the Super Mario Bros. games. Apparently, the town didn’t find it funny. People were actually freaked out by the boxes and decided to call in the bomb squad to check it out. GameSpot has a good article on the story.
Thankfully, the six teenage girls didn’t have to face charges, but they’re all required to write letters of apology to the law enforcement officials involved with the bomb scare. This goes to show you that people are too paranoid to take a joke, even on April Fool’s Day.
I think if malicious people were really interested in planting bombs around the town, they’d use something less obvious than Super Mario blocks. Honestly, what were these people thinking?
“Look! Glittery, balloon-like boxes hanging from a tree! They must be bombs!”
Seriously, do these look like life-threatening devices to you?

When’s the last time a bomber decorated their bombs with glittery boxes modeled after a kiddie video game? I guess the lesson learned is that you should never try to prank your town, or else they’ll think you’re trying to blow them up and they’ll call the bomb squad on you.
